Born and raised in East London, UK, Ali Tareen’s work uses a visual language that challenge, explores and questions the varied arenas of duality of the human condition. This involves, ego, power, sex, death and identity mixed with hints of irony, repulsion and sarcasm which is informed by memories and experiences of living in Prague and London. This theme of duality that is persistent throughout Tareen's oeuvre is inspired by his conflicting childhood and background, having parents from two very different cultures and mind-sets, Pakistan and England, the conflict of East and West.

His most recent set of projects resulted in a number of exhibitions which investigated and questioned the duality of ego and power. For Polydicks, 2016, Tareen felt responsible to visually question the male domination in Czech politics, juxtaposed with elements of sex, ego, death, and comedy. Tareen portrayed the Czechs’ dissatisfaction with their president Milos Zeman, a divisive figure who is known internationally for his love for the bottle and a lack respect for women’s rights. Tareen also questioned Andrej Babis’ motives as the country’s second richest man, and attempted to expose the inherent contradictions between the role Babis plays as the country’s finance minister and his oligarchic tendencies. Former president, Vaclav Havel is depicted on two separate sheets of paper, symbolically torn in two looking down at his country in regards to the current state of Czech Republic.

Keeping in align with the same subject matter of ego and power,
Tareen produced two other exhibitions, Whispers from my heart, 2014 and a
modern love, 2015. The desire was to investigate the notion based on power struggles in romantic relationships between humans in the current fast replacement and information overload age, yet to x-ray his own experiences of intimacy and openly confesses in mixed media drawings and paintings. Each work in this series transports you to various parts of the artist’s mind, unleashing memories that were running riot.

Tareen's last exhibition, Vanity Sluts, 2016 also toyed with ego and power in connection to sex and death. The objective was to raise questions towards the abuse and misuse of animals in sake of 'beautifying' and magnifying the ego of the human being, juxtaposed with the ambiguous existential relationship between sex and death. The fur of a dead fox on a humans head, lipstick tested on rabbits, a stuffed animal on a wall...

This latest series of paintings and drawings portray different individual moments, juxtaposed with a spectrum of layered colours and lines both materially and metaphorically. In a number of works, simple lines are formed to bounce off the background creating contrasting, expressive gestures. Using a figurative approach, Tareen investigates tension as a means for uncovering moments from the deepest corners of his mind.

Tareen has no agent, manager, assistant nor pet cats and makes his work in accordance to what and how he feels at the time. He is also responsible for having his own exhibitions as well as curating them.

Ali Tareen lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic. He obtained his degree from Central Saint Martins, London. Ve své tvorbě využívá vizuální řeč, aby zpochybňoval, objevoval a pokládal hlubší otázky z různých oblastí lidského života, zahrnující náboženství, politiku, vlastní identitu, lásku, ego a moc.
