Whispers from my heart
This collection of work explores power struggles in various relationships (with another person or with themselves) and playing with moments of various encounters between memory, colours and lines that rose from subconscious decisions.
The English philosopher Bertrand Russell argued that power is the fundamental ‘stuff’ of human relationships in the way that energy is in alliance to physics. Power is at the heart of every relationship and where the ego opens up new boundaries for submissive occupation or play the dominate role taking over the person or thing. Is it impossible to have a meaningful relationship with someone without having some power over that person, and he or she must also have some power over you? How and why can power corrupt us?
Did our great grand parents have a happier life with other people compared to us? Why are there more divorces than ever before? How has the fast information age affected our relationships?
The age of the replacement can easily be spotted in Today’s world throughout society. If something gets broken, instead of people trying to fix the problem, it often tends to replaced. If we look at things such as machines, clothes, labour, it has become the ‘norm’ to substitute it if we become dissatisfied with it.
For this series, Tareen used his own experiences of intimacy and openly confesses in mixed media paintings. Each work transports you to various parts of the artist’s mind and unleashes memories that were running riot.
